“Amazing Food Festival 2024” Highlights Variety in Thai Food

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is hosting the “Amazing Food Festival 2024” to showcase the rich variety of Thai culinary traditions and to promote Thailand as a premier destination for gastronomy tourism.

The festival is set to take place in Phuket from July 5 to July 7 at Central Phuket, in Chiang Mai from July 20 to July 22 at Central Festival Chiang Mai, and in Prachuap Khiri Khan from August 10 to August 12 at Hua Don Beach, Khao Takiab, Hua Hin.

The festival commenced this weekend at Central Phuket under the theme ‘Good Food Good Vibes.’ The event highlights the extensive gastronomic tourism opportunities across Thailand and showcases the distinctive food culture and features of the region.

The opening ceremony featured Dr. Phonpoom Vipattipumiprates, Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports; Mr. Sophon Suwanrat, Governor of Phuket Province; and Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, stated, “This event embodies the government’s ‘Ignite Tourism Thailand’ initiative, which includes various strategies to position Thailand as a central tourism hub.”

As part of these strategies, the festival encourages the ‘Must Eat’ activity, which enhances gastronomy tourism by offering tourists an enjoyable way to experience Thailand and support the local economy through culinary tours.

Over three days, the festival presents local iconic dishes, specialties from MICHELIN-rated and notable restaurants, along with popular street food vendors.

The program features cooking demonstrations by Chef Big Phuripat Jaiweerattanakul, winner of Stars Chef Thailand and Head of Cold Kitchen at Hilton Bangkok Grand Asoke; Chef Kao Vayo Nisatchanakan; and several other emerging and local community chefs from places such as Ban Bang Rong and Bang Tao-Cherng Talay.

Musical performances include acts by Chart Suchart, Getsanova, Earth Patravee, Off Pongsak, Tangmo The Voice, and Zani Nipaporn.

Additional activities tailored to each location are also available, such as arts and crafts booths and a Thailand Tourism Awards booth showcasing sustainable award-winning enterprises.

Visitors can sign up for a one-day local community tour via the “Amazing Food Festival 2024” Facebook page, emphasizing the importance of local sourcing for city businesses.

The festival places a strong emphasis on sustainability, featuring waste separation stations and staff dedicated to promoting sustainable practices among attendees.

Ms. Thapanee expects the “Amazing Food Festival 2024” to draw 50,000 attendees and generate 35 million Baht in revenue at each site, contributing approximately 100 million Baht to the Thai economy.
