Asiatique The Riverfront is preparing for a major new chapter, with an 8-billion-baht transformation set to introduce immersive entertainment, family attractions, expanded dining and new ways to experience Bangkok’s riverside.
Asset World Corp (AWC) plans to redevelop the 224,000-square-metre destination into what it describes as a “global hub of experience”, bringing internationally recognised entertainment brands together with leisure, culture and hospitality.
Among the biggest additions will be “Avatar: Guardians of Eywa”, an immersive attraction inspired by James Cameron’s blockbuster film universe.
Created in collaboration with EMM Williams Productions, the experience will combine interactive environments with live acrobatic performances and will mark the first licensed Avatar attraction of its kind in Southeast Asia.
Designed to appeal to visitors of different ages, the 4,000-square-metre attraction will form part of the new 16,000-square-metre Blue Dome development. The structure is being adapted from the Blue Ocean Dome at the Osaka World Expo, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Shigeru Ban.
The Blue Dome is expected to open later this year, while “Avatar: Guardians of Eywa” is scheduled to welcome visitors in early 2027.
The upcoming development builds on Asiatique’s growing collection of entertainment experiences.
Last year saw the arrival of “Jurassic World: The Experience Bangkok”, developed with Universal Destinations & Experiences, alongside the SkyFlyer swing ride and the “Better World Better Future” exhibition.
These additions have helped strengthen Asiatique’s appeal as more than a shopping and dining destination. Visitor numbers have continued to rise, with daily traffic currently reaching around 30,000 to 40,000 people.
Following the launch of the new attractions, AWC expects that figure to surpass 50,000 visitors per day.
More changes are also being planned across the riverside complex. These include additional parking, a broader selection of restaurants and cafés, further attractions and the future Mona Bangkok art museum.
One of the most ambitious proposals is a cable car crossing the Chao Phraya River, which would connect Asiatique with the Charoen Nakhon side and offer visitors a new perspective of Bangkok’s waterfront.
With cinematic worlds, contemporary architecture, art, dining and riverside views coming together, the redevelopment is set to position Asiatique as a full-day lifestyle destination for families, tourists and Bangkok residents alike.
