Charoen Krung Transforms Into Vibrant Historic ‘Dragon Road’

Charoen Krung Road, Thailand’s historic first road, has been transformed into the vibrant “Dragon Road” following the unveiling of two commemorative concrete archways in celebration of HM the King’s 72nd birthday.

The project was spearheaded by the Federation of Business and Professional Women of Thailand (BPW-Thailand), in partnership with stakeholders from the public and private sectors, and civil society, under the theme “Benjakattanayutha: The Virtue of the Siamese Dragon.”

Hailed as a “Must-Seek and See” destination by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Dragon Road showcases the splendor of Chinatown.

It extends from the dragon’s head archway marked with “Vajira Sathit 72nd Birthday” near Damrong Sathit bridge to the dragon’s tail archway labeled “Vajira Thamrong 72nd Birthday Anniversary” at the Mo Mi intersection.

The pillars of each archway are adorned with sculptures of elephants, lions, and drums, crafted from Han Bai Yu, or white jade marble from China.

These sculptures symbolize prosperity, wealth, and celebration, gifted by the Embassy of China to mark the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic ties.

Visitors are encouraged to appreciate the scenic beauty as they pass through these grand, auspicious archways, heralding a new era and the prosperity of the Year of the Snake.

Additionally, the public is invited to partake in the ceremonial opening of the archways, which will be graced by the presence of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Majesty Queen Suthida on Saturday at 5 pm on Charoen Krung Road.

All Thais are welcome to join in commemorating this significant historical event and contribute to establishing the “dragon gate arches” as a new cultural landmark by registering at thaichamber.org/donation.
