Grab Empowers Their Drivers With Grab Academy Year 2 Launch

Grab Thailand has reaffirmed its commitment to the industry and society’s growth, moving forward with its GrabAcademy program for the second year, following the “Enhancing and Sharpening Skills for the New Normal” theme.

Created under its GrabForGood mission, the program seeks to enable driver-and merchant-partners and everyday entrepreneurs to acquire knowledge and skills for the changing business landscape in the post-pandemic era.

This year, it comes with two new initiatives, including the “business reality show,” developed with the Ministry of Commerce. During the event, famous experts from various fields will share their knowledge and experiences with restaurant owners affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and compete for a 100,000-baht prize.

The business competition, titled “GrabAcademy: Building Careers with the Pros,” brings together specialists such as Pompam Niti, a famous host and “At Ta Rote” restaurant’s owner; Ple Nakorn, a comedy actor and “Sail To The Moon By Nakorn” restaurant’s owner; Gunsmile Chanagun, a rising star and “3 Meena” restaurant’s owner; Golf Kantapat, a content creator from the “Golf Was Here” channel; Yardpirun, a top influencer, and Bam Pitipat, a famous MC.

The show will be broadcast every Friday at 5:00 p.m. starting November 12 through Grab’s social media accounts, including Facebook and YouTube.

The second initiative brings “Five-minute bite-sized training courses” designed to fit time-constrained driver-partners lifestyles.

Grab found that driver-partners want to improve their skills and knowledge but usually have no time to participate in long-term web-based training courses. Therefore, GrabAcademy Year 2 has revamped the course format to meet their needs by installing easy-to-digest content in the Grab Driver app.

The courses contain content that can be completed in five minutes so that driver-partners can learn something new while waiting for their orders. The app includes 55 educational courses ranging from service and language lessons for services to finance-related courses.

GrabAcademy was officially launched in Thailand in 2020 through a partnership with the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa). Last year, the program was praised and received positive feedback from the public, with over 30,000 participants completing eight courses on average each.

Mr. Worachat Luxkanalode, Executive Director of Grab Thailand, said: “For 2021, we are continuing GrabAcademy for the second year under the theme of ‘Enhancing and Sharpening Skills for the New Normal’.”

“This year we are focusing on developing new learning formats and updating the new content in the educational courses to be more suitable for the needs and behaviours of driver- and merchant- partners in the current situation as well as preparing them for the changes and new business opportunities in the New Normal era,” he added.
