Meliá Koh Samui: A Superb Resort for a Tropical Getaway

Meliá Koh Samui is an absolute gem of a property, offering some of the most luxurious lodgings on the tropical enclave of Koh Samui, boasting the largest swimming pool on the island. It seamlessly blends Thailand’s rich maritime heritage with opulent rooms and world-class facilities to conjure up a serene, family friendly environment.

With its desirable setting in one of Koh Samui’s most picturesque areas, the resort is perfectly situated on an incredibly attractive beach, namely Choeng Mon Beach.

There are many ways to occupy your time at Meliá Koh Samui, whether you want to unwind and laze by the pool all day or take part in one of the many activities laid on for guests to participate in.

For families with children, their youngsters will love the ‘Kidsdom’ play area that is open everyday with a full schedule of various activities to keep them entertained. The team at Globe were certainly excited to have the chance to stay at the Meliá resort.

A Relaxing Beach Break Sure to Recharge Your Batteries

The stunning nautical-themed retreat is the first project in Thailand for the well-renowned Spanish brand Meliá, and as the world’s leading resort operator in seaside destinations, Meliá Koh Samui emphatically lives up to expectations.

Formerly the Imperial Boat House hotel, the property underwent considerable renovation to open at the start of 2020. The secluded hideaway has the first lagoon pool and the largest swimming pool in Koh Samui, as well as an incredible beachfront backdrop.

Nestled on Koh Samui’s north coast and just 15 minutes from Samui International Airport, the enclave on Choeng Mon Beach is every inch the tropical paradise, enjoying fantastic weather for most of the year. People travel from all over the world to see the pristine and gorgeous beaches; they also love to explore underwater, with snorkelling, visits to colourful reefs and diving with whale sharks being some of the most popular pursuits.

Choeng Mon has a nice, private beach which does not get particularly crowded compared to others on the island, and benefits from being covered with fine sand and having a spotlessly clean appearance. This part of Samui is tucked away from the main stretch of Chaweng so its less touristy and much more tranquil: families looking for privacy and a safe environment for their children rate this beach highly, and consider it to be a good spot for swimming as well as kayaking.

The views from the resort’s Breeza Beach Restaurant & Bar, as seen above, are a real sight to behold. Located right on the beachfront, it is ultra convenient for guests to use as they go in and out of the sea for the occasional dip.

With its all-day dining concept, customers can expect some really nice dishes here, with its focus on locally sourced and high quality ingredients, and a 5-course tasting menu that is exceptional. We’ll come back later to the other outstanding facilities at the resort.

Unique Rooms That Offer a Comfortable Stay in Paradise

The 159-room and 41-suite property has a superb selection of rooms for holidaymakers to choose from for their accommodation needs, ranging from deluxe and premium rooms all the way through to pool access rooms, boat suites and even a presidential suite. We were lucky to be assigned to a Level Boat Suite, which has a very interesting story behind it.

Koh Samui is synonymous with seafaring, and the aquatic history of the island is such that the Meliá resort has gone to great efforts to painstakingly convert a number of traditional teak rice barges into luxurious accommodations. They make for some of the most distinctive surroundings that one could wish to stay in, to give guests a real feeling of maritime adventure and the great unknowns of the deep-sea.

The Level Boat Suite was highly impressive: the light and airy decor of the duplex instantly puts you into holiday mode and gives a relaxed summer vibe, with the spacious open floor plan and stylish fixtures and fittings resulting in a seriously exclusive room to stay in. With Meliá Koh Samui being a 5* resort, all mod cons come with the rooms as standard.

We made great use of the private balcony and especially took a shine to the oversized outdoor sofa and the comfy hammock to kick back in. The luxurious bed undoubtedly recharged our batteries: Meliá have obviously gone for high-quality throughout, with the Kohler bathroom furnishings also adding to the top-notch opulence of our room.

Fun For All The Family to Make Your Stay Memorable

The range of facilities and activities that Meliá Koh Samui have are unparalleled, and set it apart from other resorts in the area: two restaurants, a state of the art executive lounge, a convenient swim-up bar at the lagoon pool, a fitness centre boasting the latest in Life Fitness equipment and the strikingly-appointed YHI Spa are all first-class.

The two outdoor swimming pools are worthy of the buzz from review websites such as TripAdvisor, and we were blown away by the 2,200 cubic metre Loop Pool that meanders through the resort’s perfectly maintained gardens.

The majority of the ground floor Pool Access rooms and suites provide guests direct access to the the glistening water from their private terrace.

It was the children’s facilities that were the star of the show for us. Kids’ club ‘Kidsdom’, as seen above, was obviously conceived with little one’s enjoyment being all-important. The outdoor playground and mini water park were the icing on the cake at this dream destination for youngsters.

Babysitting and childcaring services are also available, both complimentary for guests.

Globe Recommends Meliá and Choeng Mon Beach!

Overall, our stay at Meliá Koh Samui was one to remember and we were struck by the exceptionally high standards across the board that the hotel have been able to reach. Their staff are of the very highest caliber, and they are absolutely happy to take care of you and help resolve any issue that you may encounter during your stay.

A great beach, beautiful rooms, excellent dining options, and superb facilities all in one location make this a hotel that you will want to go back to again and again. A home from home, striving to offer excellence as the norm – This, they have managed to achieve.

We also like that the resort is committed to their social and environmental responsibility to the local community. They have introduced many sustainable practices, and the hotel gift shop features traditional arts and crafts from the best of Thai designers.
