Pattaya Film Festival To Return With Over 20 Films Streaming

The Pattaya Film Festival is set to return from August 21 to 25, showcasing over 20 films, along with outdoor screenings, masterclasses with international filmmakers, and a documentary pitching session. Admission is free at two of the cinemas in the resort city.

The festival will feature international filmmakers, producers, and guests, including Portuguese director Joao Pedro Rodrigues and Malaysian director Amanda Nell Eu.

This event is organized by the City of Pattaya in partnership with the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration and the Thai Film Archive.

Films will be shown at SF Cinema Marina and Major Cineplex Avenue, while talk programs are scheduled at the Mahatai Convention Center. An outdoor cinema event will also take place at Lan Pho Park in Na Klua.

A key feature of the festival is the competition program, which includes six films: “Sea Sparkle” (Denmark), “Gitling” (Philippines), “The Monk And The Gun” (Bhutan), “The Great Phuket” (China), “The Tenants” (South Korea), and “Last Shadow At First Light” (Singapore).

Moreover, the festival will present a variety of contemporary Thai and international films in the Panorama section, such as “The Taste Of Things” from France; “Next Sohee” from South Korea; “One For The Road” and “Not Friends” from Thailand; “Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus” from Japan, and more.

The program will also include two classic Thai films: “Last Life In The Universe” and “Somsri 422R.”

The outdoor cinema lineup includes the locally shot action movie “Pattaya Heat” and the popular Thai film from last year, “The Undertaker.”

The jury panel for the competition consists of filmmakers Joao Pedro Rodrigues from Portugal, Amanda Nell Eu from Malaysia, and Phuttiphong Arunpeng from Thailand.

The Pattaya Film Festival promotes film culture and supports emerging filmmakers through various sidebar programs, including School Cinema, which features participation from local schools in Pattaya.

Additionally, a documentary pitching session will feature 10 Thai documentary makers who will present their in-development projects in a workshop guided by international mentors. These participants will compete for prizes of 200,000 baht and 100,000 baht.
