Air Quality Across 56 Areas in Bangkok Exceeds Safety Levels

On Wednesday morning, air quality across 56 districts in Bangkok was reported to be below acceptable safety levels, with this condition expected to continue until Wednesday, November 20, according to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)’s Air Quality Information Centre.

These districts experienced levels of PM2.5, fine particulate matter measuring 2.5 micrometers or smaller in diameter, surpassing the safety threshold of 37.5 micrograms per cubic meter during the three-hour period from 5 AM to 7 AM.

The citywide average for PM2.5 on Wednesday stood at 40.4 micrograms per cubic meter.

PM2.5 particles are extremely fine dust particles that, when inhaled over extended periods, have been associated with severe health issues including chronic lung and heart diseases.

The districts most affected with the highest reported PM2.5 levels were Bang Na at 52.6 micrograms per cubic meter, Nong Khaem and Khlong Sam Wa both at 51.5 micrograms, Wang Thonglang at 47.3 micrograms, and Thonburi at 46.7 micrograms.

Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions to protect their health.

The Air Quality Information Centre recommends wearing face masks while outside, minimizing outdoor activities, and using alternative transportation methods to reduce reliance on personal vehicles.

Additionally, planting trees at home can help absorb pollutants and improve air quality.

The primary contributors to PM2.5 levels include emissions from vehicles, industrial activities, agricultural burning, and forest fires.
