Bangkok was named the world’s most visited city in 2025, welcoming 30.3 million international tourists, according to Euromonitor International’s latest “Top 100 City Destinations Index.”
The government described the ranking as a significant milestone for Thailand’s tourism industry and a reflection of the country’s strong global appeal.
Deputy Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Aiyarin Panrit said the ranking demonstrates the effectiveness of Thailand’s tourism promotion policies and highlights the friendliness and hospitality of Thai people.
“This recognition reflects our commitment to making Thailand a premier destination for travellers worldwide,” Aiyarin noted.
The announcement comes amid continued growth in Thailand’s aviation sector.
Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd (Aerothai) reported that total flight movements during the 2025 fiscal year, spanning September 2024 to October 2025, reached 904,796 flights, with the highest traffic recorded during the year-end festive period.
December saw 84,543 flights, while January 2026 is expected to rise further to 87,835 flights. Aerothai forecasts total air traffic for fiscal year 2026 at 928,165 flights, including 473,364 international flights, 343,422 domestic flights, and 111,379 overflights.
This equates to an average of 2,543 flights per day, representing a 3% increase year on year.
Authorities are preparing for a surge in air travel during the upcoming New Year holiday period from December 29 to January 7, when flight volumes are expected to reach 27,632, averaging 2,763 flights per day.
Officials have been instructed to implement comprehensive measures to ensure aviation safety, maintain smooth air traffic operations, and minimise delays during the peak travel season.
Industry analysts said Bangkok’s top ranking reflects a strong recovery in global travel demand, supported by Thailand’s strategic efforts to diversify its tourism offerings.
With iconic landmarks such as the Temple of Dawn and a vibrant urban atmosphere attracting visitors from around the world, Bangkok continues to strengthen its position as a leading global destination.
