Bangkok Lowers Speed Limit to 60 km/Hour Amid Safety Push

The Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) of Thailand made a significant announcement on Tuesday, detailing that speed limits will be enforced at 50 km/hour on 10 roads in close proximity to royal palaces in Bangkok.

Additionally, a general speed limit of 60 km/hour will be applied across all other roads throughout the Thai capital.

However, these new speed limits do not extend to 13 particular roads, which are exempt from these restrictions.

Aimed at promoting better traffic discipline and substantially reducing the incidence of road accidents, this regulation was officially published on the Royal Gazette website on Monday and became effective starting today, December 24.

Under the stipulations of this new regulation, drivers are required to adhere to a maximum speed of 50 km/hour and are also instructed to refrain from making any loud noises while driving along these 10 roads adjacent to the royal palaces:

– Ratchadamnoen Nai Avenue

– Na Phra That Road

– Phra Chan Road

– Na Phra Lan Road

– Sanam Chai Road

– Kalayana Maitri Road

– Thai Wang Road

– Maha Rat Road

– Rachini Road

– Setthakan Road

Additionally, a city-wide speed limit of 60 km/hour is set, with the exception of the following 13 roads:

– Vibhavadi Rangsit Road

– Bang Na – Trat Road (Debaratna Road)

– Srinagarindra Road

– Phahonyothin Road

– Ram Inthra Road

– Ratchaphruek Road

– Borommaratchachonnani Road

– Kanlapaphruek Road

– Rom Klao Road

– Suwinthawong Road

– Chaeng Watthana Road

– Rama III Road

– New Srinagarindra – Rom Klao Road

This regulation does not apply to vehicles that are legally required to maintain a speed of no more than 45 km/hour.
