Bangkok has been named the world’s best city for remote work and digital nomads, according to a recent ranking by QR Code Generator, a company that specialises in enhancing interaction through QR technology.
Deputy government spokesperson Sasikarn Watthanachan said on Saturday that the Thai capital earned the top spot with a score of 69.98 out of 100.
The ranking, published by the New York Post, highlighted Bangkok’s strengths in high-speed internet access and affordable cost of living compared to other major global cities.
The city also received recognition for its cultural richness, historic temples, vibrant street scenes, and acclaimed cuisine—features that continue to attract remote workers seeking new experiences.
Bangkok’s unique combination of tradition and modernity offers an ideal environment for professionals looking to balance productivity with quality of life.
The shift towards remote work has accelerated since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic nearly five years ago, prompting more people to explore flexible work-from-anywhere lifestyles.
Experts at QR Code Generator assessed cities based on several key factors, including internet speed, affordability, ease of obtaining remote work visas, and general quality of life.
Bangkok stood out for its strong digital infrastructure and accessible lifestyle, securing its place at the top of the list. Bucharest, Romania, ranked second with a score of 65.62, noted for its favourable remote work visa options.
“The government is moving forward to boost tourism by expanding the visa-free scheme to 93 countries and territories, allowing stays of up to 60 days,” said Ms. Sasikarn.
“A new Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) has also been introduced for foreigners who wish to combine travel with remote work or engage in cultural and medical activities, supporting modern travel trends while stimulating the Thai economy throughout the year.”
