Bangkok police conducted a late-night raid at a luxury hotel in the Sukhumvit area early Sunday, arresting 29 men, 28 Thais and one Filipino, after discovering what they described as a drug-fuelled LGBTQ+ party.
The operation, code-named “Busting the Golden Mine Party,” was carried out around 12:30am at a boutique hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 13 in the Watthana district.
The raid followed an order from national police chief Pol Gen Kittharath Punpetch, who acted on intelligence about recurring drug parties hosted by affluent social circles.
More than 50 narcotics officers surrounded the property and entered quietly through a back door to catch participants by surprise. Inside a large suite, police found dozens of half-naked men, some allegedly in the middle of sexual activity when officers entered.
During the search, police seized small quantities of illegal substances, including methamphetamine, ketamine, ecstasy, and amyl nitrite, also known as poppers.
They also found Viagra, syringes, drug paraphernalia, and a large number of condoms and lubricants scattered throughout the room.
Authorities confirmed that three people face drug possession charges, while four others tested positive for narcotics use. They were transferred to Lumpini police station for further questioning. The remaining partygoers were identified and released pending additional investigation.
Pol Maj Gen Teeradej Thumsutee, deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said the bust followed intelligence provided by an undercover officer who had infiltrated LGBTQ+ party networks.
“The event was organised by the same group previously arrested in a similar raid in the Thong Lor area on December 8 last year,” he noted.
He also warned that amyl nitrite, intended for medical purposes, is frequently misused as a sex aid. “Using poppers without medical supervision is both illegal and dangerous,” he said.
