Bangkok To Launch New Street Food Hub Beside Lumphini Park

Bangkok’s celebrated street food scene will soon gain a new landmark with the launch of a Hawker Centre beside Lumphini Park, scheduled to open in early 2026.

Located on Ratchadamri Road in Pathum Wan district, the project has been under construction since June 27, according to Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) spokesman Aekvarunyoo Amrapala.

He said the facility will raise the quality of the city’s street food while creating a more orderly and hygienic environment for both vendors and customers.

Street vendors currently operating in the area will be encouraged to move to the centre once it opens, offering them a secure and well-equipped space to continue their businesses.

“The original vendors affected by the footpath clean-up operation in the area will be prioritised for booking spaces at the centre,” Mr. Aekvarunyoo said, adding that the project also aimed to create opportunities for local people.

The Hawker Centre will open from 5am to midnight, catering to both early-morning park-goers and late-night diners.

Vendors will operate in two shifts, from 5am to 4pm, and 4pm to midnight, with space for 88 stalls in each shift. Food will be priced affordably to remain accessible to a wide range of customers.

Environmental preservation has also been factored into the design. Trees at the site have been relocated temporarily to Lumphini Park under the care of arborists and will be replanted once construction is complete.

The project forms part of Governor Chadchart Sittipunt’s policy to relocate street vendors to designated spaces, following a model similar to Singapore’s hawker centres.
