Bangkok has been officially named the world’s best city for Gen Z, topping Time Out’s first-ever ranking focused solely on the under-30 generation. The Thai capital outperformed major global contenders, scoring 66% among Gen Z residents, the highest of any city surveyed.
The results, published on 13 August 2025, form part of the annual Time Out Index, a survey of more than 18,000 people worldwide.
This year’s findings were filtered to reflect Gen Z perspectives, offering new insights into where young people feel happiest, most connected, and most empowered.
Bangkok was praised for its mix of affordability, community, and quality of life. According to Time Out, 84% of Gen Z residents reported being happy living in the city, while 71% considered it affordable, a key factor for a generation grappling with rising global costs.
The city also ranked as the easiest place for young people to make friends, strengthening its reputation as a lively and welcoming destination.
“This recognition reflects not only Bangkok’s global appeal, but also the strength of Thai culture in creating an environment where young people can thrive,” said Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
“We are proud that Gen Z voices from around the world have recognised Bangkok as the best city to live, connect and grow. It highlights the balance we’ve built between modern innovation and authentic local experience.”
Time Out described the ranking as a generational shift in how cities are judged. For Gen Z, a group that values work-life balance, creativity, and connection, Bangkok stood out as a city that offers both energy and affordability.
In the global top ten, Bangkok ranked ahead of Melbourne, Cape Town, New York, and London, underlining Thailand’s growing profile as a place not only to visit but also to live, work, and flourish.
