The United Nations decreed June 5 as World Environment Day and, besides the annual celebration, established the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
It’s aimed at implementing environmental activities to raise awareness and take joint protection measures regarding our environment.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) by Environmental Department has developed activities in support of the World Environment Day Project for 14 years since 2007. Under the program, they seek to promote public awareness among all sectors to get involved in the environment’s protection together with world communities.
The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) announced that “Ecosystem Restoration” will be the main theme of this year’s World Environment Day celebration.
By 2021, Thailand still faces the ongoing spread of COVID-10, a disease that has led the entire world to experience almost a year and a half of pandemic restrictions. However, the health crisis has not decimated BMA’s plans, as it has organized online activities in the framework of World Environment Day in cooperation with UNEP and network partners.
Some of their goals include campaigning for environmental protection.
They also plan to develop a strategy that involves all sectors and the general public to know and understand environmental problems and promote public participation among government organizations, the private sector, and the public.
The 2021 campaign’s theme, set by the BMA, is “Decade of Restoration towards Sustainable Green Metropolis.”
Moreover, to comply with the measures to prevent the spread of the virus, the BMA opted for a strategy adapted to the current situation: World Environment Day 2021 activities will be carried out as a 360° Virtual Exhibition at: worldenvironment2021.bangkok.go.th.
