The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has stepped up flood surveillance as high tides are forecast to affect the capital throughout the week, from December 6 until December 12, 2025.
The increased monitoring follows an alert from the Royal Thai Navy’s Hydrographic Department warning that water levels in the Chao Phraya River may rise significantly, particularly between 8am and 2pm.
According to city officials, 11 riverside communities across six districts are considered most vulnerable due to their location outside Bangkok’s main flood-protection embankments.
More than 320 households could be directly impacted if water overtops the riverbanks during peak tides. The BMA has urged residents in these areas to follow real-time updates and contact authorities immediately should flooding occur.
The Drainage Department reported that the at-risk communities are positioned along the Chao Phraya River, Khlong Bangkok Noi and Khlong Mahasawat, spanning the districts of Dusit, Phra Nakhon, Bang Kho Laem, Yan Nawa, Bangkok Noi and Khlong San.
These low-lying areas are home to an estimated 1,070 residents, and authorities say rising water levels could affect them swiftly if the predicted surge materialises.
The Hydrographic Department’s advisory remains in effect until December 12, warning of high tides during morning to early afternoon hours.
Residents living outside flood barriers are encouraged to monitor official channels and prepare for potential inundation.
