Emquartier Closes Some Shops In Bangkok Amid COVID-19 Fears

Emquartier, one of the most popular shopping centers in the city capital, Bangkok, has decided to close some of its stores after a COVID-19 infection among one of its customers was discovered.

Officials scrutinies showed that the case was a shopper that had visited several places in Emquartier.

The person went to a clothing store and also visited a Thai restaurant and a fast-food outlet. The management of the shopping center, which is located near to Phrom Phong BTS station, has instructed its personnel to act immediately according to the following parameters:

The staff of the shopping mall that work in the affected shops have to self-quarantine for 14 days at home. Besides, staff members who had close contact with infected buyers must go to the hospital for observation.

Also, affected shops had to close for deep cleaning and are awaiting further instructions from authorities.

According to the shopping center management, they may implement stricter COVID-19 preventive measures as the Thai Public Health Ministry recommends to apply.

Although some people thought that the shopping center was closed, Emquartier will open tomorrow. In the statement released, its representatives said that they were issuing a temporary order of closure for affected vendors.

“The Shopping Complex prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of customers above all. The five measures for the highest safety precautions are strictly enforced. For the safety of our customers, employees, and visitors, it can be assured that The Emporium and The EmQuartier Shopping Complexes are in compliance with the highest security measures. We stand with all Thais, and we will get through this together,” it said.

The Emquartier is not the only business affected by the resurgence of COVID-19 infections. As the number of cases grows, Thai authorities are forced to develop a strict plan in order to contain the spread of the virus.

In Bangkok, the government imposed the closing of more than 25 business and banned gatherings. Schools are also shut down until the end of the month and restaurants are allowed to offer take out services only.

The new outbreak, which has extended to several provinces, could result in more restrictions if it is not controlled. However, authorities think that the current measures are enough to curb the rise in COVID-19 cases.
