Search for Survivors Continues at Collapsed Bangkok Building

As of Sunday, the death toll in Thailand from Friday’s powerful earthquake in Myanmar has risen to 17, with 32 people injured and rescue teams still searching for 77 individuals unaccounted for.

The Bangkok-Nonthaburi monorail service remains suspended due to a dislocated power rail.

At the collapsed site of the new State Audit Office compound in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, rescuers have retrieved 10 bodies, with the 10th body recovered from the debris late Saturday night.

Additionally, at the site of the collapsed 30-story building, eight people sustained injuries, and 77 others remain missing.

Elsewhere, seven more fatalities occurred, predominantly at condominium construction sites, which included fallen cranes. In the Silom area, an elevator accident injured three people.

Search and rescue efforts persisted at the under-construction State Audit Office headquarters in the Chatuchak district throughout Sunday.

Bangkok’s Governor, Chadchart Sittipunt, announced that the city received a building-scanning device from Israel to aid the ongoing rescue operations.

Debris clearance near the Din Daeng expressway ramp is 80% complete. Should this not be concluded in a timely manner, City Hall may implement a work-from-home directive by Monday.

Electric railways have resumed services, except for the Bangkok-Nonthaburi Pink Line monorail, whose power rail shifted in the Min Buri district of Bangkok.

City Hall has received approximately 9,500 reports of building damage through the Traffy Fondue app, and volunteer engineers are assessing the structures.
