Three entertainment venues in Bangkok have been ordered to suspend operations after inspections uncovered licensing violations and serious safety deficiencies.
The inspections form part of a citywide crackdown launched following Sunday night’s deadly fire at a large beer hall in Chatuchak district.
Officials are assessing fire-prevention measures, emergency preparedness and compliance with business licensing and building-use requirements under the Building Control Act of 1979, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said on Thursday.
In Pathum Wan district’s Rama I area, authorities ordered the immediate temporary closure of a venue found operating as a pub with live music, lighting and other entertainment activities without the required licence.
City inspectors also discovered that the premises lacked emergency exit signs, while escape routes were obstructed, potentially preventing customers from evacuating safely during an emergency.
Another venue in the Charan Sanitwong area of Bangkok Noi district was found providing live music and karaoke without a licence required for businesses considered potentially hazardous to public health.
Officials said the unauthorised activities could pose risks to both customers and nearby communities, prompting authorities to take action against the operator.
In Ratchathewi district’s Phetchaburi area, a live-music venue was ordered to close after inspectors found that it had continued operating despite receiving previous official warnings.
The operator was issued a final notice requiring the venue to cease operations within seven days.
The intensified inspections were launched after a fire tore through Rong Beer Na Ladprao in Chatuchak district on Sunday night, killing 33 people.
