Education Ministry Backs New Overseas Camp for Thai Youth

Thailand’s Ministry of Education fully supports the One District One Scholarship (ODOS) policy and is encouraging Mathayom 4 (Grade 10) students nationwide to participate in the newly launched overseas summer camp program, which was launched on Thursday.

Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Assistant to the Education Minister, highlighted that the summer camp is designed to offer Thai students an international experience and to prepare them as potential candidates for the ODOS higher education scholarships.

On Friday, he mentioned that the ministry has identified challenges faced by students who had previously received ODOS scholarships to study abroad but struggled to complete their education due to language barriers and cultural differences.

To address these challenges, a new summer program has been introduced.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra described the ODOS summer camp as a six-week short course aimed at exposing young people to global cultures and responsibilities, marking a crucial phase in their personal growth.

Students up to 19 years old from 928 districts, including Bangkok, are invited to apply for the summer camp.

The application window is open from March 24 to May 16 through the Tang Rat application, according to Mr. Siripong.

Mr. Siripong noted that the Equitable Education Fund (EEF) and the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC) are the primary organizations spearheading the ODOS scholarship initiative.

He added that while the Education Ministry is not leading the program this year, it is committed to providing comprehensive support to ensure its success.

“The project is aimed at providing Thai youth with opportunities to further their studies in fields they are interested in, especially in STEM—integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” he said.

Funding for the project will be provided by the Government Lottery Office, with the EEF responsible for the distribution of scholarships.
