President Donald Trump Now Says He ‘Is All for Masks’

For the first time since the onset of the pandemic, the US President Donald Trump has advocated the usage of masks, while speaking to Fox News. Up until now, he has been quite vocal about his disdain for this safety equipment.

Now, he has made a statement that he is “all for masks” as he looks like the Lone Ranger when he wears them, referring to a fictional hero.

However, he continues to argue that there is no requirement for mandating masks in the country’s efforts to contain the COVID-19 virus. His argument is that there are “many places in the country where people stay a very long distance.” However, he stated that people who feel good about wearing a mask must do so.

He is also insistent that the virus will eventually “disappear,” just as the country has created a new record with 52,000 virus cases in a day.

His response comes one day after a Republican leader appealed to him to wear a mask so his supporters can follow suit.

According to Johns Hopkins University, as of now, the US has recorded about 2.7 million cases and 128,000 deaths.

When Trump was asked if he plans on wearing a mask, he said: “If I were in a tight situation with people I would, absolutely.” He also stated that several people have seen him with his mask on.

On July 3rd, Trump will be holding an Independence Day celebration. Attendees of the event will not be forced to wear a mask or even practice social distancing measures.

Initially, when safety measures were first put into place by the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Trump told reporters that he will not wear a mask.

“I don’t think I’m going to be doing it,” he said back then. “Wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens – I just don’t see it.”

He also stated that adhering to safety protocols and complying with the official health guidance, particularly in relation to masks, is a personal decision.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, he claimed that the decision of certain groups of people to wear masks is politically rooted and is a statement against him.

In May, Trump had told the reporters that he removed his facial mask before leaving the factory he had gone to visit as he “didn’t want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it”.

The White House stated that people who come in contact with the president are tested for the virus quite often.

Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter as well as senior adviser, was spotted wearing a mask in public several times.

According to a poll by ABC News that was conducted last week, 89% of Americans answered that they wore a mask or something to cover their face when they stepped out of their house the previous week.
