Thailand’s Election Commission has reminded the public that alcohol sales and distribution will be banned in parts of Bangkok and Pattaya during the upcoming local elections.
The restriction will be in force from 6pm on Saturday, June 27, until 6pm on Sunday, June 28.
It applies to designated electoral areas involved in the Bangkok Governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Council elections, as well as the Pattaya Mayor and City Council elections.
During this period, the sale, serving, distribution or gifting of alcoholic beverages of any kind will be strictly prohibited. The ban begins on the evening before polling day and will remain in place until voting has ended the following day.
The Election Commission said the measure is part of election regulations intended to help maintain order and support a fair voting process.
Businesses, entertainment venues, restaurants, shops and members of the public have all been urged to comply with the rules throughout the restricted period.
Anyone found violating the ban could face legal action under Section 123 of the Local Elections Act B.E. 2562 and its amendments. Penalties may include a prison sentence of up to six months, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both.
The Commission also encouraged eligible voters to take part in the elections on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Polling stations will be open from 8am to 5pm, with voters advised to check their assigned locations in advance.
Officials said public participation remains essential to ensuring transparent, fair and neutral local elections.
