A Chinese man was seriously injured by a landmine after allegedly attempting to cross into Thailand through a natural route in Ban Nong Chan, Sa Kaeo province, early Saturday morning.
At approximately 5:50am on November 29, Border Patrol Police reported a sudden explosion coming from a forested area near an old minefield along the Thai-Cambodian border.
The location is known for its restricted zones designated for unexploded ordnance. Authorities immediately informed the Commander of Task Force 12 about the incident.
In response, the Commander ordered the deployment of a drone to evaluate the situation and requested clearance from the Burapha Task Force for Humanitarian Bomb Disposal Unit 1 to launch a rapid rescue mission.
Security was provided by Border Patrol Police and soldiers from Task Force 12 to ensure the safety of the bomb disposal team during the operation.
Rescuers later located the injured man lying on the ground, attempting to administer first aid to himself and calling for help in both English and Chinese.
He showed signs of shock and was visibly shaken, prompting the bomb disposal team to deliver urgent medical aid on-site before transporting him to Khok Sung Hospital for further treatment.
The man is currently receiving medical care at Khok Sung Hospital. Khok Sung Police Station has initiated preliminary coordination, while Immigration Police in Sa Kaeo province have opened an investigation into the case, which is believed to involve illegal cross-border activity.
Authorities have warned that natural paths in the border area remain extremely dangerous due to the presence of landmines, and anyone attempting to cross illegally risks severe injury or death.
