A tragic incident occurred on Rama II Road in the Muang district of Samut Sakhon province when a construction crane carrying a concrete beam collapsed, resulting in the deaths of four workers and injuries to 10 others.
The Facebook page ‘FM91 Trafficpro’ announced early at 4 am on Friday that the collapse happened at the site where an elevated highway is being constructed on Rama II Road, close to the Mahachai Muang Mai Market at km.21+100.
At the time of the disaster, there were 39 workers present at the site. Of these, 25 were fortunate to escape without any injuries, according to a member of the rescue team.
Rescue operations confirmed two fatalities, and 10 workers were promptly transported to local hospitals to treat their injuries.
Search efforts are ongoing as rescue teams sift through the rubble, hoping to locate the two workers who are still unaccounted for and are presumed dead.
By 6:30 a.m., the Samut Sakhon police reported significant traffic buildup on both the inbound and outbound lanes of Rama II Road in the vicinity of the accident site, with vehicles backed up to km.23 and km.16, respectively.
To circumvent the congestion, the police have recommended that motorists take alternate routes via Phetkasem and Phutthasakhon roads.
Rama II Road has gained notoriety for its perpetual construction activities, which have frequently been cited as causes for several accidents.
Earlier in May of this year, another accident at a construction site in front of the Index Living Mall located in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thian district saw a concrete beam crash onto the roadway, claiming the life of one worker, injuring another, and causing damage to four vehicles passing by.
