Deadly Fireworks Explosion in Suphan Buri Kills Nine People

A deadly firework explosion tore through a residence in Ban Pho Tha Sai Moo 1, Mueang district, Suphan Buri province, on Wednesday morning, killing at least nine people.

Two others remain in critical condition, and several individuals are still missing, according to local authorities.

The Samerkun Suphanburi Rescue Foundation received an emergency call at 11:10am. Rescue workers and local officials arrived to find a devastating scene, with widespread destruction and multiple casualties reported.

Suphan Buri Deputy Governor Kolawat Supsongsuk led an inspection team to the site. Preliminary investigations revealed that the powerful blast destroyed two homes, scattering debris and household belongings across a wide area.

Smoke and fire residues lingered at the scene, triggering panic among nearby residents. Authorities have since cordoned off the site, barring unauthorised access due to ongoing safety concerns.

In response, provincial officials have set up an emergency assistance centre at Wat Pho Tha Sai temple to provide aid to victims and their families.

As of the latest update, nine bodies have been recovered from the rubble. Search and rescue operations are continuing for those who remain missing.

Two individuals are currently being treated in hospital in critical condition.

This marks the second major fireworks-related tragedy in the district in less than a year. In January 2024, a similar explosion killed 23 people and seriously injured seven others.

Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and prevent similar incidents in the future.
