The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has unveiled plans to build a tunnel expressway costing 50 billion baht that will link Kaset and Ngamwongwan. Public feedback on the project will be gathered and considered on July 13.
EXAT Governor Surachet Laophulsuk stated that the third public hearing would complete the feasibility study for the northern section of the Third Stage Expressway System, which pertains to the N1 replacement segment.
The proposal includes the construction of a tunnel with an estimated budget of 50 billion baht.
The planned route will start at the intersection of Sri Rat Expressway and Ngamwongwan Road, follow Ngamwongwan Road, and pass beneath Phong Phet Intersection, Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, and Kaset Intersection.
It will then extend along Prasert-Manukit Road to connect with the Northern Expressway Phase 3 Project, section N2. This route will span a total of 6.7 kilometers.
Tomorrow’s meeting aims to finalize the construction plan and assess public support for EXAT’s proposal. Following this, EXAT will gather the feedback and submit it to the Ministry of Transport and other relevant authorities for further deliberation.
Surachet also mentioned that the Northern Expressway Phase 3, section N2, would stretch from Prasert-Manukit Road to the Eastern Outer Ring Road of Bangkok, covering 11.3 kilometers and requiring an investment of about 16.96 billion baht.
Both sections have completed their detailed studies, designs, and environmental impact assessments.
The planned tunnel is intended to reduce traffic congestion in one of Bangkok’s most congested areas, offering a quicker commuting route and significantly cutting travel times.
This project is part of a larger goal to improve Bangkok’s infrastructure to accommodate its expanding population and urban development.
EXAT emphasizes the importance of incorporating public opinion into the planning process to ensure that large-scale infrastructure projects align with community interests.
