A speedboat caught fire at a deep-sea pier in Ao Makham, Phuket, on Monday morning, leaving five people injured and one person unaccounted for, according to local authorities.
The Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office reported that it received an alert about the incident at approximately 10:50am on April 6.
Witnesses described thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky above the pier, prompting concern among tourists and nearby marine operators.
Emergency personnel from Wichit Municipality, the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation and local disaster response units were dispatched promptly to the scene.
Fire crews worked urgently to bring the situation under control, amid concerns that the flames could spread to other vessels docked in close proximity.
Officials later confirmed that the fire had been contained, with damage limited to the affected speedboat. There were no immediate reports of the blaze extending to neighbouring boats.
Five individuals sustained injuries and were treated at the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals.
Authorities said the victims were suffering from burns and smoke inhalation and required urgent medical attention.
Search and rescue teams continued efforts to locate one person who remained missing following the incident.
The area has since been cordoned off and designated as a hazardous zone while investigators examine the cause of the fire. Authorities said further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
