The government launched its “Thailand Summer Festivals” campaign to enhance tourism and the creative economy with a series of festive celebrations running from March to September this year.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra oversaw the inauguration event at Government House on Wednesday.
Also in attendance were Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong, Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, National Soft Power Strategy Committee Chairman Surapong Suebwonglee, along with other Cabinet members.
The initiative, themed “7 Months 7 Wonders Summer Festivals,” highlights a range of events in seven categories: Songkran, Pride Month, culture, music, sports, food, and art and creative festivals.
The goal is to bolster Thai tourism by covering the off-season and encouraging ongoing travel throughout these seven months.
In her opening remarks, the PM expressed her government’s dedication to positioning tourism as a key pillar of the Thai economy, highlighting its contribution of over 14% to the gross domestic product (GDP).
“This campaign aims to elevate Thailand as a year-round travel destination, filling the low season with festivals and cultural events that showcase Thai heritage engagingly each month,” she said.
She emphasized that the campaign will include a variety of festivals and activities designed to appeal to various lifestyles, aiming to attract tourists to every region, from major cities to hidden gems, thus promoting fair income distribution across the country.
A highlight is the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025, set to take place at Bangkok’s Sanam Luang from April 11-15, continuing to celebrate Songkran’s status as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and aiming to elevate the festival to international prominence.
Mr. Sorawang also highlighted other significant events in the campaign, including:
– Moto GP 2025 Thailand Grand Prix in Buri Ram province
– Pattaya Music Festival in Chonburi
– Pattaya International Kite on the Beach in Chonburi
– Bun Bang Fai or Rocket Festival in Yasothon
– Amazing Thailand Grand Taste in Chonburi
– Amazean Jungle Thailand by UTMB 2025 in Yala
– Samui Regatta in Surat Thani
– River Pride of Bangkok 2025 in Bangkok
– Splash International Soft Power Forum 2025 in Bangkok
– Summer Sonic Bangkok 2025 in Bangkok
– FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship in Phuket, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Bangkok
