Heat Stroke Warning Issued As Temperatures Set To Hit 43°C

Authorities are urging the public—particularly vulnerable groups, people with chronic illnesses and outdoor workers—to take precautions against heat stroke as temperatures are forecast to exceed last year’s highs across several parts of Thailand.

Deputy government spokeswoman Ayrin Phanrit warned that temperatures in high-risk areas could climb to 42–43 degrees Celsius, especially in the northern provinces of Mae Hong Son, Lampang and Tak.

She advised residents to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and to take extra care during peak heat hours.

Health officials recommend limiting outdoor activities between 11am and 3pm, drinking water frequently and wearing light, breathable clothing to reduce the risk of heat stroke, a potentially fatal condition that occurs when the body overheats and vital systems are affected.

Those considered most at risk include the elderly, infants and young children, people with chronic conditions such as heart or lung disease and obesity, as well as individuals who work outdoors for extended periods.

“Avoid staying out in the heat for a prolonged period of time. Also, avoid consuming alcohol and do not leave anyone in the car [unattended], especially small children,” said Ms Ayrin.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department reported that storms are expected from Tuesday through Friday. The system will begin in the Northeast before spreading to the East, the Central Plains, Bangkok and surrounding areas, and the North.

The department added that air pollution levels are likely to remain low to moderate, supported by moderate ventilation conditions and anticipated rainfall in many regions.
