A coffee shop owner at Talad Rom Hub train market, a well-known tourist spot in Mae Klong district, has been ordered to shut down his shop for 30 days after making an obscene gesture at a Spanish tourist.
The incident, caught on camera last Thursday, showed the vendor shoving and shouting at the tourist. The footage quickly spread across social media, igniting widespread criticism.
According to the Maeklong railway station office, the shop is situated on land owned by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), which issued an official notice to the vendor.
The notice includes a 30-day suspension from operating his business and a strict warning that any future misconduct will result in a permanent ban from the market.
The penalty was imposed after a recent investigation by local tourist police. The coffee vendor, identified as Jame, reportedly confessed to his inappropriate behavior.
Jame later released a video apologizing to the tourist and the Thai public for his actions.
Pol Lt Col Anatchai Konthong, a senior tourist police inspector, confirmed the investigation revealed Mr. Jame had forcibly removed the tourist from his shopfront.
The space where the incident took place is owned by the SRT, and Mr. Jame had no rights over the area, Pol Lt Col Anatchai added.
