A 21-year-old university student has died after jumping from the fourth floor of a shopping mall in Nonthaburi while attempting to flee arrest for filming under a young woman’s skirt, police confirmed on Saturday.
The incident took place at Central Westgate in Bang Yai district at around 7:40pm on Friday.
According to witnesses, a woman noticed the man using an iPad to record under her skirt on the fourth floor and quickly called for help. Police officers and mall security soon detained the suspect.
Reports indicate that while evidence was being collected, the man panicked and tried to escape. He threw his bag down to a lower floor before leaping over the railing, sustaining a fractured ankle and severe head injuries upon impact.
One witness described the moment as horrifying, saying people screamed and cried in shock as the man lay motionless on the ground.
He was rushed to Kasemrad Rattanatibeth Hospital but later died of his injuries, said Pol Col Siriphop Anusiri, chief of Bang Yai police.
TV Channel 7 reported that shortly before the fall, the student called his mother to say goodbye and admitted to secretly recording videos under female students’ skirts.
He allegedly told her he had been pressured into the acts after joining a private online group, where he was threatened with blackmail unless he provided additional footage.
