Miss Universe Thailand clinched the third runner-up position at the Miss Universe contest in Mexico City, which took place on Sunday morning, Thailand time.
Representing Thailand, 21-year-old Suchata “Opal” Chuangsri, who stands at 180 centimeters, is a native of Phuket province where her family owns and operates a hotel.
Suchata completed her secondary education at Trium Udom Suksa School and is currently pursuing a degree in international relations at Thammasat University’s Faculty of Political Science. She is proficient in Thai, English, and Chinese.
Her career began in modeling, with her first pageant being Miss Rattanakosin in 2021.
In 2022, she was the youngest contestant in the Miss Universe Thailand pageant, where she not only finished as third runner-up but also received the Miss Natural Beauty award. Suchata was crowned Miss Universe Thailand in July of this year.
Her decision to participate in beauty pageants was inspired by her personal battle with health; she chose to use the platform to raise awareness about breast cancer following her surgery at age 16 to remove a 10-centimeter breast tumor.
Denmark’s Victoria Kjær Theilvig was crowned Miss Universe 2024 on Sunday at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, surpassing 125 competitors from around the world.
The top 5 finishers were:
First Runner-up: Chidimma Adetshina from Nigeria
Second Runner-up: Maria Fernanda Beltran from Mexico
Third Runner-up: Opal Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand
Fourth Runner-up: Ileana Marquez from Venezuela
The 73rd edition of the Miss Universe pageant saw 125 contestants initially, which was narrowed down to the top 30, then the top 12, and finally the top 5. The final round included a question-and-answer segment to assess the finalists’ intelligence and poise.
