Thailand’s newly crowned Miss World 2025, Suchata “Opal” Chuangsri, arrived home on Saturday to a rapturous welcome along Sukhumvit Road, following her historic win in India. Opal is the first Thai woman to claim the Miss World title in the pageant’s 72-year history.
Wearing a flowing white gown and the iconic blue Miss World crown, the 21-year-old from Phuket made her first public address on a stage at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
“This crown belongs to every Thai,” she told the cheering crowd that had packed into the terminal to greet her.
Opal was accompanied by Julia Morley, chairperson of the Miss World Organisation, who also received a warm reception from Thai fans and officials.
“I think you have already seen how much happiness, enjoy and pride we have brought to this nation of mine,” Opal told Morley. “It’s my mother’s land. It’s my home country … and it means a lot to have the honour to bring the first crown back to Thailand.”
The emotional homecoming drew thousands of supporters across generations, as well as dignitaries, celebrities, and former beauty queens.
Crowds filled every level of the arrivals terminal, waving Thai flags, holding up supportive banners, and capturing the moment on their phones.
Despite the immense attention, Opal maintained her composure.
“I don’t see this as pressure,” she said. “I see it as power. A power that comes from all of you believing in me. It gives me the strength to keep going.”
Many fans turned out in glamorous fashion, donning glittering pageant-inspired costumes, crowns, and matching T-shirts emblazoned with the phrase “Opal for Her, Opal for World” — a tribute to the social media campaign that followed her journey since 2022.
Morley, visibly moved by the celebrations, praised Thailand’s love for Opal and her potential as a global role model.
“I love Thailand,” she said. “I want Opal to be completely herself — to relax, to stay grounded, and to follow her own purpose.
She has the power to inspire young girls everywhere, and in the end, it’s not just Opal who won — it’s the entire Thai nation that triumphed together with her.”
At a press conference, Opal shared her vision for her reign, highlighting her commitment to raising awareness about breast cancer and promoting equitable healthcare access.
“This crown means I can finally reach people in need, shine a light for them,” she said.
One fan, Yam, described Opal’s victory as a unifying moment for the nation. “She’s become a kind of soft power — an ambassador of Thai culture to the world,” he said.
Following the official ceremony, Opal departed in a 2025 Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II for a celebratory motorcade that began at the Bangkok Planetarium and proceeded along Sukhumvit Road toward the Emporium shopping centre.
She later continued the festivities on foot, walking a red carpet along the skywalk linking Emporium to EmSphere, where fans gathered for one final celebration to mark the end of her triumphant return home.
