Thai teenage singer and guitarist Nene Royal secured an automatic place in the “America’s Got Talent” Finals after Mel B awarded her the Golden Buzzer for her rendition of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun”.
The breakthrough came during the episode broadcast on Tuesday, August 25. Mel B was given the power to send one act directly to the Finals, while three others would advance through the public vote.
Nene delivered a powerful version of the Soundgarden classic, displaying a commanding stage presence that contrasted sharply with her quiet personality away from the spotlight.
According to Give Me My Remote, Mel B admitted that Nene’s style of music was not ordinarily to her taste. Nevertheless, she praised the young musician’s voice, appearance and confidence on stage.
“How could I not do this?” Mel B asked before pressing the Golden Buzzer and securing Nene’s place in the final stage of the competition. Overcome with emotion, the singer broke down in tears as the audience celebrated the decision.
The achievement marks a major milestone for Nene, whose incredible rock performances on the popular US talent show have attracted growing international attention.
The grand final is scheduled to take place on September 23, Thailand time.
