Suchata “Opal” Chuangsri made history on Saturday night after being crowned Miss World 2025 at the 72nd edition of the international beauty pageant, held in Hyderabad, India.
She becomes the first Thai woman to win the title in the competition’s history.
The 22-year-old is a political science student at Thammasat University and the founder of “Opal for Her,” a social initiative aimed at supporting women living with breast cancer. She competed against 108 contestants from around the globe.
“This moment is not just a personal victory; it is a shared dream of every young girl who wants to be seen, heard and to create change,” Opal said in her first speech as Miss World, as quoted on missworld.com.
“I am honoured to represent this legacy and use my time as Miss World to make a real difference.”
Julia Morley, chairwoman of the Miss World Organisation and head of the judging panel, praised the Thai contestant for her vision and advocacy.
“Opal has shown us that she is more than a winner — she is a woman of purpose, with a voice the world is ready to hear,” Morley said.
Opal’s “Opal for Her” campaign has been running for more than three years, focusing on raising awareness and promoting early detection of breast cancer. With her new platform, she plans to expand the initiative internationally.
Originally from the southern island province of Phuket, Opal is 180 centimetres tall and multilingual, fluent in Thai, English, and Chinese. Her family runs a local business in Phuket’s Old Town district.
This year’s Miss World competition featured finalists from four continental zones: Africa, the Americas & Caribbean, Asia & Oceania, and Europe.
The first runner-up was Hasset Dereje from Ethiopia, followed by Maja Klajda of Poland and Aurélie Joachim from Martinique.
