Phuket’s ambitious AI City project is accelerating, with officials confirming that artificial intelligence will soon play a central role in automating a wide range of public services.
Provincial governor Sophon Suwannarat said Phuket, already recognised as a Smart City, must continue to adapt to the rapidly changing world.
His remarks followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday with CT Asia Robotics Co Ltd to drive forward the Phuket AI City development plan.
Under the agreement, the province will apply AI across environmental management, waste and wastewater treatment, healthcare, and traffic systems.
In the public health sector, CT Asia Robotics will provide three “Dinsaw” AI medical aides to assist with health check-ups and elderly care at Vachira Phuket Hospital, with deployment expected by early next year.
Chalermpol Punnotok, chief executive of CT Asia Robotics, said the robots will be able to conduct initial health screenings, deliver preliminary diagnoses, and connect directly with hospital databases.
This, he said, will reduce staff workloads and improve the accuracy of diagnoses. He also noted that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plans to introduce an AI-based breath analysis cancer screening system in Phuket in the near future.
Governor Sophon added that AI adoption will not only reinforce Phuket’s global reputation as a premier tourist destination but also establish the island as a model for AI-driven transformation in Thailand.
He cited Bangkok and Pathum Thani as examples of cities already using AI to manage road traffic, and said the Department of Highways is studying the possibility of adopting similar systems in Phuket.
According to officials, AI applications could also significantly reduce pollution and waste, lower the number of unnecessary garbage truck trips, and increase recycling rates, furthering Phuket’s vision of becoming a leading AI-powered city.
