Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday that registration for the 10,000-baht handout scheme will open on August 1.
“The digital wallet program will be ready for registration on August 1,” the post read.
In his post on X, the prime minister specified that the national digital wallet policy committee convened on Monday morning to finalize arrangements for registering both recipients and participating retailers.
Srettha further mentioned that the committee would direct appropriate government agencies to carry out the essential tasks required to initiate the project, which includes establishing criteria for the recipients and implementing anti-corruption protocols.
“The digital wallet is a major government project to add money to the pockets of people, small businesses, and the economy.”
“For the sake of legal and technical prudence, and for the security of users, implementing the project takes time,” Srettha said. “But this wait is definitely not in vain.”
Irada Luangwilai, deputy director of the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), stated that the Thang Raj (government’s path) app is now ready for digital wallet registrations.
She noted that the DGA has been developing the app for the past three or four years, and it is now available for download on iOS devices from the App Store and on Android devices from Google Play.
To be eligible for the 10,000-baht digital handout, recipients must be at least 16 years old by September 30 and should not have more than 500,000 baht in their bank accounts.
Additionally, they must not have earned more than 840,000 baht in 2023, as indicated by their tax records.
