Princess Bajrakitiyabha Suffers Blood Infection, Palace Reveals

The eldest daughter of Thailand’s king, who has been hospitalised in critical condition for more than two years, is suffering from a “severe” blood infection, the palace said on Friday, August 15.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol has remained unconscious since December 2022, when she collapsed from a heart condition during a military dog training event in Nakhon Ratchasima, north of Bangkok.

The Bureau of the Royal Household issued its first update on her condition in over two years.

“The doctors have reported that the Princess’ lungs and kidneys have been functioning with support from medical devices and medication,” the statement said.

“From August 9, 2025, the medical team detected a severe infection in the bloodstream, leading them to administer antibiotics and medication to stimulate blood pressure in order to maintain stable levels.”

Doctors will continue monitoring her condition and providing treatment, the palace added.

Known in Thailand as “Princess Bha,” the 46-year-old is the eldest child of King Maha Vajiralongkorn and his only daughter from his first marriage.

Educated in Britain, the United States and Thailand, she has held positions with the United Nations and campaigned for improved treatment of women in prisons.

She is considered close to her father and was appointed to a senior role in his bodyguard command one year before her hospitalisation.

The 73-year-old king, who has seven children from four marriages, has not named an heir. Succession laws traditionally favour male offspring.
