Royalists flocked to Bangkok’s Sanam Luang and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha on Sunday to demonstrate their allegiance to His Majesty the King.
The group of royalists, made up of people dressed in yellow, marched near the Grand Palace as another group of anti-government protesters converged near the Bang Na area.
There were thousands of people at the event. The yellow-clad royalists occupied the pavements and the area inside the temple for hours, waiting for the motorcade of His Majesty the King.
The King visited the temple to change the attire of the Buddha statue from the rainy season to the winter season.
Famous Thai actor Bin Bunluerit said the meeting took place without any political agenda. Besides, he claimed that they wanted to carry a message to the protesters calling for the reform of the monarchy and the ouster of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
They merely wanted to show the King and His Majesty the Queen their allegiance to the highest institution.
The actor was among a group of celebrities who urged people to come out on Sunday to show support and respect for the monarchy, amid protests from movements demanding reform of the monarchy and calling on the Prime Minister to resign.
Protesters gathered near BTS station Udom Suk in Bang Na district to continue their anti-government demonstrations.
Although many leaders and activists have been in prison for several days, the protesters promise to continue to gather in the streets to protest.
The Free Youth movement published a message through its Facebook account, asking the demonstrators not to give up the campaign for democracy.
Through the statement, they asked supporters to continue to pressure Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to demote.
The group also said that they are planning a big rally, but the date has not been announced on social media.
