Officials are issuing alerts for severe thunderstorms and robust winds sweeping through all northern, northeastern, central, and select southern regions, including Bangkok, through Thursday.
Chaiwat Jultirapong, the head of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, stated on Sunday that he had directed local officials across these areas to brace for potential adverse weather effects.
The advisory follows forecasts from the Meteorological Department indicating that high-pressure systems from China will engulf the eastern territories of the North, Northeast, and the South China Sea. Concurrently, a monsoon trough will assert dominance across the lower segments of the North and Northeast, as well as the Central Plain.
Kornravee Sitthichivapak, chief of the Meteorological Department, predicts the following storm and wind patterns:
On Sunday:
– In northeastern regions such as Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Nong Khai, Sakon Nakhon, and Udon Thani
Monday and Tuesday will see disturbances in:
– Northern areas like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and others extending to Mae Hong Son and Uttaradit
– Northeastern sections from Amnat Charoen to Yasothon
– Central plains including Ang Thong to Greater Bangkok
– Eastern districts from Chachoengsao to Trat
The pattern persists into Wednesday and Thursday, impacting:
– Similar northern and northeastern provinces
– Central regions from Ang Thong to Samut Songkhram
– Eastern locales and southern provinces like Chumphon and Prachuap Khiri Khan
Ms. Kornravee noted a forthcoming temperature drop of one to three degrees Celsius later this week in the Northeast.
As of Sunday, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has chronicled floods in 17 provinces, predominantly in the North and Northeast, distressing around 40,000 families.
Floods have inundated:
– Northern provinces from Chiang Mai to Tak
– Northeastern areas including Chaiyaphum and Udon Thani
– Central Ayutthaya; and
– Eastern Prachin Buri.
While water levels are receding in most locales, they are rising in Phitsanulok and Ayutthaya and remain steady in Maha Sarakham.
Since August 16, flooding has impacted roughly 181,000 households, claimed 49 lives, and injured 28 in 37 provinces, as per department reports.
