Thai Police Arrest German Man Accused of Assaulting Dentists

Thai police have arrested Matthias Ebner, a German man accused of assaulting multiple dentists in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Mueang district. He was taken to the provincial court on Wednesday.

Police armed with a court warrant apprehended the 41-year-old in a shopping mall parking lot around 5 pm on Tuesday, according to Deputy Provincial Police Chief Pol Col Kachen Setthaputta.

Mr. Ebner was discovered seated in the back of his green Ford Ranger pickup, having reportedly fled his residence after learning about the arrest warrant.

Authorities plan to request a 12-day extension of his detention. Mr. Ebner faces charges of trespassing, assault, and property damage, and it is likely that his bail application will be rejected.

Following his capture, he was transported to the Jor Hor police station. An interpreter reported that he acknowledged his identity as per the warrant but declined to comment further, opting to save his statements for the courtroom.

Mr. Ebner, who has been residing legally in Thailand and renewing his visa annually, may face visa cancellation by the police at the Nakhon Ratchasima Immigration Office due to public safety concerns, Pol Col Kachen stated.

His Thai wife has reported that he suffers from a mental health condition for which he has not been medicated.

The initial complaint against Mr. Ebner was lodged by a female dentist on November 30, who claimed he physically attacked her after forcibly entering her clinic.

Since then, other dentists have filed complaints against Mr. Ebner, citing assaults over the last three-and-a-half months.

Police are now set to interview the complainants and build their case against Mr. Ebner.
