The Thai government expects to generate 10 billion baht in revenue from foreign film productions this year, deputy government spokesperson Sasikan Watthanachan announced on Saturday.
According to data from the Thailand Film Office (TFO), under the Department of Tourism, a total of 279 international film projects were shot in Thailand between January 1 and June 30, contributing 2.8 billion baht in production revenue.
The figures are based on officially permitted shoots and highlight the positive impact of international productions on Thailand’s film industry and tourism sector, Sasikan said.
India, South Korea, Japan, and China were among the top countries choosing Thailand as a filming location. Bangkok, Pathum Thani, and Chon Buri were the most popular filming sites.
The TFO projects that revenue from foreign film productions will reach 10 billion baht by the end of 2025, surpassing the initial target of 7.5 billion baht and representing a 50% increase compared to the previous year.
In 2024, Thailand earned 6.6 billion baht from 491 international productions spanning 42 countries, according to the TFO.
Sasikan noted that the government remains committed to positioning Thailand as a premier filming destination. Incentives such as the 30% cash rebate continue to be promoted and may be extended to attract more productions.
Recent international titles filmed in Thailand include “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” now showing in cinemas, and the upcoming science-fiction series “Alien: Earth,” set to premiere on Disney+ on August 13.
FX Networks recently unveiled the second trailer for “Alien: Earth,” which showcases Bangkok’s cityscape, interior scenes shot at The Studio Park in Samut Prakan, and the natural beauty of Surat Thani, Krabi, and Phang Nga.
To further boost Thailand’s global film presence, the government plans to ramp up promotional efforts at major industry events such as the Cannes Film Market and the Berlin International Film Festival.
