Thailand’s CB System Ready To Send Emergency Notifications

Thailand’s Cell Broadcast system is now ready to notify Thai citizens and foreign tourists about natural disasters, as confirmed by the relevant authorities.

True Corporation, in collaboration with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC), and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, successfully conducted a Cell Broadcast test on Friday.

The test was initiated in response to the 8.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar’s Mandalay on March 28, affecting Bangkok and several other provinces and causing significant damage and loss.

“I am very confident after participating in today’s Cell Broadcast test with True Corporation, which yielded the expected results, with the message being quickly distributed and covering the specified area,” stated DDPM director-general Passakorn Bunyalak.

He emphasized the crucial role of the CB system in enhancing Thailand’s disaster alert capabilities and mentioned the ongoing development of the Cell Broadcast Entity (CBE) to facilitate warnings from public bodies.

“We have a clear goal to implement the CB system as soon as possible to ensure the safety of Thai people, especially in high-risk areas,” he further remarked.

Mr. Passakorn anticipates that the cooperation between the public and private sectors will substantially improve disaster management effectiveness in Thailand.

Chakkrit Urairat, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at True Corporation, explained that the goal of conducting the CB system test at the company’s Business and Network Intelligence Centre in Bangkok is to hasten its implementation.

He assured that True is prepared to use the CB service to notify both True and dtac subscribers during emergencies or disasters.

“We have already installed this system at every station nationwide,” he noted, affirming the commitment to safeguarding public safety.
