Thailand’s New App Replaces Driving License With QR Code

Thailand’s Department of Land Transport (DLT) has launched the QR Licence mobile app, revolutionizing convenience for drivers by eliminating the need to carry a physical driver’s license.

Seksom Akraphand, the director-general of the DLT, announced that this app enables motorists to digitally display their driving license on electronic devices like smartphones and tablets.

This innovative app is designed not only to display a driver’s personal details such as blood type and drug allergies but also to alert drivers when their license is nearing expiration.

Furthermore, it facilitates the sharing of travel routes, locations, and vehicle registration numbers with others, enhancing safety and communication during travel.

In case of emergencies, users can swiftly send messages or make phone calls directly through the app, providing a critical tool for immediate communication following accidents.

Additionally, the app serves as a portal to the latest news and updates from the DLT, keeping users informed on the go.

Compatible with both Android and iOS platforms, the QR Licence app is available for download from trusted sources like the Google Play Store and the App Store.

To use the app, drivers must possess the updated version of the driver’s license that includes a QR code on the back, as specified by Mr. Seksom.

This digital transition not only modernizes the way Thai motorists access and display their driver’s licenses but also significantly enhances the ease and security of managing driver information and handling roadside emergencies.

In a related development, DLT has announced that drivers’ licenses will now clearly indicate whether the holder is an organ donor. This change, which takes effect on August 7, is designed to enhance the visibility of drivers’ organ donation status.
