VietJet To Recruit Over 5,000 New Thai Staff for Expansion

VietJet Aviation, Vietnam’s largest low-cost carrier, plans to recruit more than 5,000 new employees in Thailand as part of a major expansion strategy focused on Southeast Asia’s most visited destination.

In a statement released late Wednesday, VietJet Thailand announced it will launch new direct flights to several key Asian cities this year, targeting rising demand for regional air travel. The new routes will include destinations in Japan, South Korea, and India.

The move aligns with a broader trend among regional airlines. VietJet joins the likes of Thai Airways International and AirAsia in adding new routes, as Thailand accelerates efforts to position itself as a central aviation hub in Asia.

To support the growing influx of airlines and travellers, the Thai government is upgrading passenger capacity at major international airports in Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai.

VietJet Thailand is currently hiring for a range of positions, including pilots, cabin crew, engineers, technicians, and ground staff. The airline already employs approximately 1,300 people in the country.

The expansion follows a recent legal victory for the airline, after a London court dismissed a bid by UK investment firm FitzWalter Capital to freeze VietJet’s global assets over unpaid fees.

VietJet’s Thai unit posted a net profit of 64 million baht in 2024, marking a significant turnaround from a 3.6 billion baht loss the previous year. Revenue surged by 45% year-on-year, reaching 19 billion baht, according to Thailand’s Department of Business Development.

The new routes are set to roll out over the coming months, with Bangkok–Seoul launching on October 1, Bangkok–Osaka on December 1, Bangkok–Tokyo Narita on December 15, Bangkok–Kolkata on November 16, and Bangkok–Ahmedabad on December 4.
