Trump Hails Prince William As King Charles’ ‘Remarkable Son’

President Donald Trump praised Prince William during his state banquet speech at Windsor Castle, singling out King Charles’ eldest son in remarks that quickly attracted attention.

On September 17, the 79-year-old US president used part of his address at the diplomatic dinner, which concluded the first full day of his state visit to the UK, to describe William, 43, as a “remarkable son” to the King.

After thanking King Charles, 76, for his hospitality and commending his dedication to the United Kingdom, Trump turned to William and Kate Middleton, who were seated near him at the banquet.

“I just want to say that His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales. Really amazing. We’ve gotten to know you and I think you’re going to have unbelievable success in the future,” the president said.

The comment prompted speculation from some outlets that it may have been aimed at Prince Harry, though Trump did not mention the Duke of Sussex. The focus remained firmly on William, making the “remarkable son” line appear to be direct praise rather than a comparison.

Even so, the remark generated debate, with commentators highlighting the significance of praising one son in a family whose relationships are closely followed by the public.

Harry has also been in the UK recently, reuniting with King Charles last week for the first time in 19 months. He did not meet with Prince William during the trip, leaving their ongoing rift at the forefront of royal coverage.

Trump’s words about William came against a backdrop of years of pointed remarks about Harry and Meghan Markle, comments that have frequently fueled headlines.

William and Kate joined the Trumps on September 17 to meet King Charles and Queen Camilla before a carriage procession, lunch at Windsor Castle, and a private discussion between the two couples.

Palace sources confirmed that William and Kate held a private meeting with the Trumps, which was described as “warm and friendly,” though no details of the conversation were shared.

Harry’s reunion with his father took place at Clarence House in London, where Buckingham Palace confirmed the two had tea in private. No additional information was provided by the palace or Harry’s spokesperson.

In subsequent days, Harry indicated he wanted to strengthen ties with his father.

Speaking to The Guardian while in Ukraine, he said, “the focus really has to be on my dad,” adding that he hopes to spend more time in the UK and bring his children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, for visits.

“This week has definitely brought that closer,” Harry said of his return to the UK.
