Harry and Meghan Slam Royal Author Over ‘Deranged’ Claims

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have criticised the author of a forthcoming royal biography, accusing him of promoting “deranged conspiracy and melodrama”.

In extracts from his new book published by The Times on Friday, author Tom Bower claims that Queen Camilla once told a friend that Meghan had “brainwashed” Prince Harry.

Bower also writes that Meghan became a “divisive agent” within the royal family and was viewed as a “threat” by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan said Bower had “long crossed the line from criticism into fixation”.

They said in a statement on Saturday: “This is someone who has publicly stated, ‘the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,’ language that speaks for itself.”

“He has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met.”

“Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”

The extracts also address Harry and Meghan’s relationship with Prince William and Catherine, as well as their business and charitable activities since stepping down as senior royals and relocating to the United States in 2020. These include commercial partnerships with Netflix and Spotify.

Bower claims tensions between the Sussexes and William and Catherine had already intensified before the couple left the United Kingdom.

According to the author, William and Catherine were “alarmed” by Meghan and believed she “lamented Harry’s unlikely chances of one day being king, just as she regretted the possibility that she would never be the queen”.

Bower also alleges that Prince Harry fears his brother, the future monarch, “could remove all the Sussexes’ titles and effectively banish him from Britain”.

Another section of the book focuses on the prince’s involvement with the Invictus Games, describing media attention surrounding Harry and Meghan at the tournament for wounded military veterans and referring to it as “the Meghan Games”.

Harry and Meghan appear on the cover of Bower’s latest book, “Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family”.

The author previously wrote “Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors”, which was published in 2022.
