Princess Kate is returning to public duties after revealing her cancer diagnosis in March. Kensington Palace released this information through a press statement, along with a new photograph of Kate, which was shared on the official Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account.
“My treatment is ongoing and will continue for a few more months. On days when I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on things that energize and uplift me, and start doing a little work from home,” she said in the post, thanking well-wishers “for all the kind messages of support and encouragement.”
In an update to royal followers, Princess Kate reported that she is progressing well, though she acknowledged the ups and downs experienced by anyone undergoing chemotherapy.
“On those bad days, you feel weak, tired, and you have to give in to your body’s need for rest. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well,” she explained in the statement.
She also noted her plans to participate in Trooping the Colour, a ceremonial tribute and public celebration of King Charles III’s birthday, despite missing the Colonel’s Review rehearsal on June 8 due to her health.
The event, held annually, honors the reigning monarch, whose actual birthday is on November 14.
“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but I am equally aware that I am not out of the woods yet,” she shared in an Instagram statement.
After stepping back from the public eye for most of the year due to her health, the working royal is gradually returning to public engagements following her private battle with cancer. In March, she disclosed her diagnosis via a video message, following widespread rumors and false theories regarding her absence.
“I wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank you for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding while I’ve been recovering from surgery.”
“It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who’ve taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful,” she said in the video.
Last week, Princess Kate apologized for her absence at the previous week’s Colonel Review.
The Irish Guards, a regiment of the British Army, shared a letter from Princess Kate in which she expressed her pride for the regiment ahead of the Colonel’s Review and Trooping the Colour.
“Being your colonel remains a great honor, and I am very sorry that I was unable to take the salute at this year’s Colonel’s Review. Please pass my apologies to the entire regiment; however, I do hope that I will be able to represent you all once again very soon,” she wrote in the letter.
She added, “Please extend my best wishes and good luck to everyone participating.”
