Céline Dion To Make Huge Stage Comeback With Paris Residency

Céline Dion has announced her return to the stage, four years after being diagnosed with an incurable condition that impacted both her singing voice and mobility.

The global music icon, widely recognised for hit ballads such as “My Heart Will Go On” and “Because You Loved Me”, is set to perform a 10-night residency at Paris La Défense Arena, a venue with a capacity of 40,000. The shows are scheduled to take place across September and October.

The announcement coincided with Dion’s 58th birthday. In a message shared via Instagram, she described the return as “the best gift of my life”.

“I’m so ready to do this,” she told fans. “I’m feeling good, I’m strong, I’m feeling excited, obviously, [and] of course, a little nervous.”

Addressing her health, she added: “I’m doing great, managing my health, feeling good. I’m singing again, even doing a little bit of dancing.”

“But I have to tell you something very important: Over these last few years, every day that’s gone by, I felt your prayers and support, your kindness and love.”

She continued: “I am grateful to all of you. I can’t wait to see you again.”

High Demand Expected for Tickets

Dion, one of the best-selling music artists of all time, has not staged her own concert since 8 March 2020 in Newark, New Jersey. Her “Courage” world tour was later halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, before she was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, forcing the cancellation of all remaining shows.

For her upcoming residency, concert dates have been spaced several days apart, likely to reduce physical strain and support her recovery.

Tickets are set to go on sale from April 7, with demand expected to be extremely high. Fans can begin registering their interest via her official website from March 31.

Plans for the comeback first emerged in reports by French-Canadian newspaper “La Presse”. Shortly afterwards, promotional posters featuring Dion’s lyrics appeared across Paris.

On Monday evening, the Eiffel Tower displayed the message “Paris, je suis prête” (“Paris, I am ready”), accompanied by a playlist of her songs, including “I’m Alive”, “Encore Un Soir”, and “My Heart Will Go On”. A French-language version of her announcement message was also broadcast at the landmark.

Dion publicly revealed her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in December 2022, describing how it had impacted “every aspect” of her daily life.

SPS is a rare neurological condition affecting an estimated 8,000 people worldwide. It disrupts communication between nerves and muscles, leading to stiffness, painful spasms, and, in severe cases, reduced mobility. There is currently no known cure.

In a 2024 interview, Dion said she first noticed symptoms while on tour, when her voice began to feel strained.

“It was just feeling a little strange, like a little spasm,” she said.

“My voice was struggling, I was starting to push a little bit.”

Initially, she attempted to adapt by singing in a lower register rather than pausing performances, citing the difficulty of stepping away from a sold-out global tour.

However, her condition worsened over time. She later described the sensation as: “It’s like somebody is strangling you. It’s like somebody is pushing your larynx [or] pharynx.”

Despite the challenges, Dion has remained committed to regaining her strength. Speaking in 2024, she outlined an intensive rehabilitation routine.

“The way I see it, I have two choices. Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over,” she said.

“I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team.”

Her regimen includes five days a week of physical, athletic, and vocal therapy.

These efforts culminated in a high-profile return at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she performed “Hymne à l’Amour” from the Eiffel Tower—her first major live performance since her diagnosis.

The same song was played again during the recent announcement event, symbolising her full-circle return to the stage.

Dion has long expressed a deep connection with Paris, once saying: “I want to love more when I’m in Paris… It makes me love things more.”
