Demi Lovato has gone back to using the “she/her” pronouns, saying she has been feeling more feminine recently.
The 29-year-old pop singer adopted they/them pronouns in 2021 after coming out as nonbinary.
However, speaking on the “Spout” podcast on Tuesday, the former Disney actress said she adopted her former pronouns, explaining that she has “been feeling more feminine.”
“I’m such a fluid person when it comes to my gender, my sexuality, my music, my creativity,” she added.
Lovato updated the information on her Instagram account and added that she now uses “they/them” and “she/her” pronouns. The pop star previously revealed that she identifies as both queer and pansexual.
It’s not common for people who identify as non-binary to use the “she/her” pronouns. However, the Cool for the Summer singer said: “Recently, I’ve been feeling more feminine, and so I’ve adopted ‘she/her’ again. But I think what’s important is, like, nobody’s perfect.”
The 29-year-old pop star also opened up about why she had adopted “they/them” pronouns before.
“When I was faced with the choice of walking into a bathroom and it said ‘women’ and ‘men,’ I didn’t feel like there was a bathroom for me because I didn’t necessarily feel like a woman. I didn’t feel like a man. I just felt like a human,” she went on.
Lovato added that choosing to identify with “they/them” pronouns was about feeling “human at your core.”
The Heart Attack singer also talked about how people recognize her pronouns, saying that everyone messes them up sometimes.
“Everyone messes up pronouns at some point, and especially when people are learning. It’s just all about respect,” she stated.
Lovato is set to release her new album “Holy F**ck” later this month, featuring songs that talk about her health challenges after a drug overdose. For a few weeks now, she has given hints that she could tap into her feminine energy again while promoting her latest music project.
