Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has described David Beckham and Victoria Beckham as “good parents”, saying time would help mend their strained relationship with their eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham, following a very public family rift.
Speaking in an interview with The Sun, Ramsay—who has been a close friend of the Beckham family for years—said he respected Brooklyn for “forging his own way” and expressed confidence that the situation would eventually resolve itself.
The comments come after Brooklyn posted a series of messages on Instagram in January, ending months of online speculation, in which he said he did not want to “reconcile” with his family.
He also made several allegations about his parents, many connected to his wedding to Nicola Peltz, the daughter of a billionaire businessman. The Beckhams have not issued a formal response.
Among the most contentious claims was Brooklyn’s allegation that Victoria Beckham “hijacked” the first dance at his wedding, which he said had been planned “weeks in advance” to a romantic song.
“She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life,” he said.
However, a report by British Vogue, which attended the wedding, offered a different account, stating: “Brooklyn invited his mother on stage for a dance and they were joined by David and their 10-year-old daughter, Harper.”
Ramsay, who was also present at the wedding, dismissed suggestions of any misconduct, insisting that nothing “salacious” or “inappropriate” occurred.
Reflecting on the family dynamic, Ramsay said “the relationship with David and Brooklyn is very, very deep and I know how much David loves Brooklyn”.
“I think it’s only going to be a matter of time before Brooklyn takes a good look at himself,” he added.
He continued: “It’s easy to get up on that roller coaster and get carried away, but it will come back”.
Asked whether he had spoken directly to Brooklyn, Ramsay said they had exchanged messages “a little bit” and said he “loves him”.
“He’s desperate to stand on his own two feet,” Ramsay said, while urging him to remember that “one day you’re not going to have your Mum and Dad”.
Ramsay made the remarks ahead of the release of his new “Being Gordon Ramsay” on Netflix.
Sir David Beckham has not directly addressed the reported family dispute, but speaking more broadly about social media in January, he said that children are “allowed to make mistakes”.
